These gorgeous vintage china pierced earrings were created from a vintage vibrantly decorative Artecer plate ~ a Spanish ceramic piece, hand-painted in the traditional cuerda seca (dry rope) technique & accented with 24-karat gold. It features intricate geometric & floral (arabesque) patterns inspired by Hispano-Moresque art. The plate likely originates from Seville, Spain, a region renowned for this specific type of ceramic craftsmanship. Technique: The cuerda seca method involves applying a wax or grease line (the "dry rope") that prevents the colored enamels from mixing during firing, resulting in sharp, distinct patterns. This Artecer decorative plate was likely made in the 1960s - 1970s.
The design for these earrings was chosen from the plate, cut out carefully with ceramic tile nippers, smoothed out to size & shape with my handy dandy grinder, then (white) grout is applied to the edges to seal & further protect the vintage china pieces.
I have lovingly placed the porcelain pieces into lovely rectangular hammered antiqued silver over brass bezels that measure a little over 1.25" long (with loop) & 1/2" wide. With the hoops, they hang around 2" long. The earrings are hung with 925 sterling silver ear wire hoops.
*Each JBD piece comes with a 'Story Card' that tells a little about the Vintage China Pattern that was used in the piece purchased! :)
